Preamble

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish the Constitution for the United States of America.

It is very sad that until taking this American Government course, I had never once read or listened to a recitation of the Preamble. Well, I may have listened to a recitation of the Preamble back in high school when I was taking American Government, but I had a hard time paying attention then... so even if I heard it, it went in one ear and out the other. I have really taken my education and resources for granted. I have had so many opportunities to learn about American Government, but I never made the time to do so. I have often blamed my lack of following the news on the fact that I never watched TV growing up. But enough with the excuses. There is the internet, the radio, the public library, magazines, newspapers... If I was really concerned about my government and country, I would have made time to keep posted with what was happening. It is time for change. That is why I decided to take this American Government course-- to get myself on the right track. I know that in order to fully understand what is going on in the political world, I need to first understand the roots of the United States government. The roots of the US government find itself in the Constitution, which begins itself with the Preamble.

The Preamble states the purposes of the Constitution. It consists of great ideas that I have never before considered and do not fully understand just yet. I look forward to my journey in getting to know my Constitution.

How I wish I were like the 2-year-old child in the video below! I should have started this journey long ago, but I kept putting it off for other insignificant activities.
